Founder's Story

Hi, I'm Cory Chadwick, Founder of Lyceum (formerly The Mental Gym). After losing my mother to mental illness and suicide 25 years ago, I chose to be proactive about my mental health.

With a background in psychology, I developed a process to rewire my thoughts, decisions, and behaviors. What started as prevention evolved into a practical approach for living one's best life.

The birth of my first son inspired me to share this process. Working with hundreds of ambitious, growth-minded individuals, I realized people are ready to thrive but lack a modern, relevant solution designed for them. I envision a world where people proactively manage their mental health, consistently growing as individuals and leaders, creating a ripple effect of positive change.

We needed a place for this — not therapy or self-help, but a real-life, authentic space where like-minded people can grow, connect, and move from good to great together. Not a one-off or quick-fix, a place offering consistent guidance and accountability, focusing on integrating knowledge into everyday life.

The idea struck during an intense workout: just like we exercise our bodies, we need a gym for our minds. That's how Lyceum was born.

Our  Values

01

Collective Growth

We believe in the power of community, consistency, and mutual support. Like physical fitness, mental strength is built through regular practice and shared commitment, leading to compounded personal and professional growth.

02

Practical Relevance

We translate complex concepts into simple, actionable tools. Our science-backed approach focuses on real-life applications, not just theory, ensuring immediate value in everyday life.

03

Authentic Connection

We foster genuine relationships through real, meaningful conversations. Our inclusive space transcends labels, recognizing our shared humanity alongside our unique differences.

04

Embracing the Journey

We celebrate progress, not just destinations. Growth is challenging, but we face it together with enthusiasm and perseverance.

05

Forward-Focused Respect

We maintain a non-judgmental, respectful environment that looks ahead, not behind. Our space is dedicated to growth, learning, and mutual support.

FAQs
FAQ

Who is this for?

Lyceum is for organizations and their people who know life is challenging and want to put in the effort to be better... they're smart, ambitious, and growth-minded, working towards a better self, but lack the structure – guidance, accountability, community, and consistency – to translate their ‘theoretical’ learnings into real-life results.  They're often your leaders, emerging leaders, and high-potentials looking for a fun, relatable, science-backed process that helps them thrive at work and at home – building practical tools, skills, and habits that can be recalled whenever needed to thrive in any situation now and in the future.

Who is this not for?

Lyceum is not for people in crisis who may require traditional approaches like therapy or counseling. We're also not for organizations or individuals looking for a quick-fix (which doesn't work) or 'box-check', or who only care about performance but not about their people's wellbeing, personal potential, and quality of life at work and at home. And if you're looking for something dry, boring, or academic, that's just not us – sorry if that's what you were looking for.

How many people in a group / cohort?

Anywhere from 5-20 people in each session. The sweet spot for a cohort is 10-15 people, but groups as small as 5 or as big as 20 (even 25 if required) create a great experience.

Do we need to be on the same team?

It’s up to you. Lyceum connects teams in a remarkable way – there’s also a ton of value in people from across the organization (different teams/departments) growing and connecting together.

Will my team be comfortable being in the same group together?

Yes. Your people will feel comfortable and they’ll likely contribute sooner than you’d think (you may even be surprised by who contributes too). Remember, this isn’t a therapy session. We’re not digging into the past or asking people to talk about their struggles. This is about growth and becoming the best versions of ourselves together. We’re looking forward, not backward, and the safe, inclusive, positive environment we create – with no judgment – is something people crave.

What if we don’t want to talk about personal stuff?

Again, this is not a therapy session. Our proactive (not reactive) approach means we're always looking forward, not backwards. We’re not talking about illness, and nobody will ever be expected to share anything they aren’t comfortable sharing. We’re getting mentally fit, growing, connecting, and becoming our best selves.

How does it work with a boss and teammate being in the same group together?

It works great. In fact, we recommend it. There are no labels or titles in The Gym. It’s an inclusive space building genuine trust, understanding, and mutual respect for each other – not just as coworkers, as human beings. Leaders and teammates who train together thrive together.

We already have an EAP, why do we need Lyceum?

Reactive care for people in crisis – while important – is only relevant to a small percentage of your people’s situations, wants, and needs. Lyceum is for everyone else – the majority of your people who need a solution relevant to them.

What if someone’s away or misses a class?

While we suggest prioritizing attendance each week, we also know life happens. After each workout we send an email with key concepts and integration exercises people can do on their own. We also share a short video summarizing the workout (and catching up if need be) so everyone’s ready to go again next week.

How long does the process take?

Lyceum is not a quick fix, it's a process with consistency, guidance, accountability, and community. It takes about 12 weeks to start to rewire your brain, and we grow from there. Check out our Solutions or Contact Us below to see which program is right for you.
